Funding opportunities: Early, Mid-career and Senior Researchers

 

Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) offers a culturally vibrant and dynamic research environment for researchers whose interests focuses on an area or region and are interdisciplinary in nature.  Researchers will take advantage of the vast network of resources available at Oxford, including the largest community of Area Studies scholars in the world. They are welcome to attend events and seminars, join one of our Thematic Research Clusters, and contribute to the wider research community of the School.

External researchers

At our school, we support a diverse array of research grant funding schemes opened to external researchers and tailored to meet the needs of researchers at all stages of their careers.  Whether you are just starting out or are an established independent researcher, we support many externally-funded research schemes.  If you are interested to apply to a funder or scheme not listed below, please contact the Research Facilitation Team (research@area.ox.ac.uk) to know if the School could support you.  

Early Career Researchers

Early Career Researchers at OSGA expand their professional network, and gain scholarly independence during their time with the School.  OSGA supports postdoctoral early career researches for many externally-funded research fellowships such as: 

Mid-career and Senior researchers

OSGA supports externally funded schemes open to Mid-career and Senior researchers, working outside the UK, who would like to undertake new and cutting-edge research projects, or bring novel expertise to enhance skills and knowledge of academic staff and students in an underrepresented area in the UK, such as:  

  • The Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorships 
  • British Academy - Visiting Fellowships 
  • European Commission Consolidator Grant 
  • European Commission Advanced Grant 
  • European Commission Synergy Grant
  • Wellcome Career Development Awards

Application Process 

If you are thinking about applying for any of the research funding listed above, the information below will help you to understand the process: 

  1. To check the eligibility for each scheme by following the provided links.   
  2. To get in contact with the Research Facilitation Team - research@area.ox.ac.uk - if you need more information about the eligibility requirements. 
  3. Identify and approach a potential mentor/supervisor/UK contact within OSGA 
  4. Check the deadlines outlined in each on the page and submit the documents required to research@area.ox.ac.uk.  

 

The OSGA Research Committee evaluates the proposals nursing quality of fellowships and research grants applications, in light of the OSGA Research Strategy 2020/2025. The OSGA Principal Investigator/Project Lead Eligibility Policy applies. It outlines the eligibility, responsibilities, expectations, and guidelines for individuals serving as Principal Investigators within the School. If your application receives the initial support of the OSGA Research Committee, the Research Facilitation Team will provide advice and support to make the application process to the funder as smooth as possible.

The Research Facilitation Team is committed to assisting researchers in navigating the complex landscape of research grant funding. We offer specialist guidance on specific aspects of proposals, including costing, ethics requirements, and open access. Additionally, we help plan and integrate the impact of your research from the project design phase, ensuring its success and sustainability.
