Associate Professorship in Politics and International Relations of China

The Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) and the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) in association with St Cross College are recruiting an Associate Professor in Politics and International Relations of China to start from 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are invited from both early career and established scholars who specialise in international relations, international political economy, or a closely related field with specialization in China.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct advanced research; to teach, supervise, and examine in the politics and international relations of China at the undergraduate and graduate level; and to play a part in the administrative work of DPIR and OSGA.

The post will be held in conjunction with a Fellowship at St Cross College. The Fellowship carries no teaching duties for the College, but the Fellow will be expected to participate in the academic life of the College, taking part in events for students, acting as a College Advisor for students, and playing part in the administration of the College.

Associate Professor of Environmental Geography and Latin American Studies

The School of Geography and Environment (SoGE) and the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) are two of the fifteen constituent parts of the Social Sciences Division at Oxford. SoGE is internationally recognized for the quality of its teaching, research and wider engagement across the breadth of human geography, physical geography and environmental studies. OSGA represents a commitment by the University to enhancing teaching and research in Area Studies.

About the Role:

The post is offered on a full-time basis, available from 1 October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Appointments to Associate Professorships are confirmed as permanent on successful completion of a review during the first five years.  The successful candidate will be expected to engage actively in research in any area of Environmental Geography, spanning the intersection between human and physical geography; and to contribute through world-class publications to the departments’ and University's international reputation for research excellence. Further responsibilities include teaching and supervising at undergraduate and graduate level, contributing fully to academic administration and examining in both Schools.

The post will be held in conjunction with a Governing Body Fellowship at St Antony’s College and their role in the College will entail advising students, serving on committees, participating in its running as a College member and trustee. The Associate Professor will also play a role in contributing to the running and development of the Latin American Centre housed at 1 Church Walk, on the premises of St Antony’s.

About You:

The successful candidate will be a specialist of Latin America who has conducted advanced research in any area of Environmental Geography, spanning the intersection between human and physical geography.

Associate Professorship in African History

The Faculty of History and the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA), in association with St Antony’s College, propose to appoint to an Associate Professorship in African History.

OSGA is one of the fifteen constituent parts of the Social Sciences Division at Oxford. The School represents a commitment by the University to enhancing teaching and research in Area Studies. The Faculty of History in Oxford has a very strong international reputation for its scholarship and its teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, with particular strengths in the history of the British Isles, continental Europe, imperial and global history, the US, economic and social history, intellectual history and the history of science, medicine and technology.

About the Role:

The post is offered on a full-time basis, available from 1 October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointments to Associate Professorships are confirmed as permanent on successful completion of a review during the first five years.  The successful candidate will be expected to undertake advanced, internationally excellent research; to teach and to supervise at undergraduate and graduate levels in lectures, classes, fieldwork and small-group tutorials; to contribute to admissions, examining, and assessment, and to contribute fully to academic administration in both University units and the College.

The post will be held in conjunction with a Governing Body Fellowship at St Antony’s College. For the College, the post will entail advising students, serving on committees, and participating in its running as a College member and trustee.

About You:

The candidate will have expertise in sub-Saharan African History since 1880, and in particular Central African or West African history and a doctorate and a research track record within African History.
