Oxford School of Global and Area Studies welcomes applications from suitably qualified applicants for the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme.  The scheme is designed to 'offer opportunities for outstanding early-career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment which will develop their curriculum vitae and improve their prospects of obtaining permanent lecturing posts by the end of the Fellowship. This scheme provides funding to cover the costs of a 36-month fellowship at a host institution. The purpose of this award is to enable the award holder to pursue an independent research project, towards the completion of a significant piece of publishable research. The competition for the Postdoctoral Fellowship is held in two stages. The Outline Stage is open for everyone within the eligibility criteria who meet the funder evaluation criteria reported in the scheme notes. The Second Stage is by invitation only.

Those who are interested to apply for this scheme should note the following OSGA internal application procedure:

  • Check the eligibility criteria and ensure you meet them;
  • By 24 August 2023 at 9:00 am, please send to research@area.ox.ac.uk and in CC francesca.tucci@area.ox.ac.uk (indicating your name and 'BA Expression of Interest' in the subject line) your CV accompanied by a draft of your expression of interest application (Please, use this form) and the name of a potential mentor in the School. The internal panel will provide information about the selected proposal within 10 working days and further details about the application process.
  • The selected candidates will be invited to submit the final proposal to the OSGA Research Committee by September 20th at 9:00. The proposals selected for the OSGA’s support must be completed (including the Referee Statement) and submitted via the Flexi Grant by noon 27th September 2023 After this submission, the proposal will be received by the University of Oxford Research Services which will provide the Organisational Approval and submit the application to the funder by 04 October 2023 – 17:00 BST.

The 2019-20 round will open on 21 August 2019. In August and the British Academy will update the Scheme Notes and they expect no major changes to the scheme.

Call for Applicants for 2018-19 Competition

The School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies welcomes applications from suitably qualified applicants for this year’s British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme, for awards to be taken up in September or October 2019.

Applicants interested to hold fellowships in the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies are asked to follow the steps listed below:

  1. Check the eligibility criteria and ensure you meet them;
  2. Identify and approach a potential mentor in the School. Please, ask your potential mentor in the School to write a reference for the SIAS Research Committee. It should be submitted to francesca.tucci@area.ox.ac.uk by September 1st, 2018;
  3. Submit your expression of interest using this form to francesca.tucci@area.ox.ac.uk, indicating your name and 'BA Expression of Interest' in the subject line, by midnight (GMT) on 31th August 2018.

The selected proposal for SIAS support will be invited to submit a draft of the complete outline proposal by 24th September, 2018.
