Juan Masullo, Ph.D (European University Institute), is Departmental Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations, Associate Member of Nuffield College, and Research Associate at the Changing Character of War Centre at the University of Oxford. His substantive academic interests include conflict, civil wars and political violence; civilian agency and civilian protection; attitudes towards strategies to combat violence and crime, and more broadly, contentious politics. He has explored these subjects in various Latin American countries, including Colombia, Mexico and Brazil. His research combines multiple types of evidence and relies extensively on immersive fieldwork in areas affected by different types of violence. His work has been published in various outlets, including Terrorism and Political Violence, Journal of Peacebuilding & Development, Mobilization, Politics & Governance, Global Policy Journal, and in several edited volumes. Before joining the University of Oxford, he was Postdoctoral Fellow at the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Science (BIGSSS) and Research Fellow at Yale’s Program on Order, Conflict and Violence (OCV).
