Ameya is reading for a DPhil in Area Studies (South Asia) at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies. He has previously completed his B.A. in Political Science at St. Xaviers College, University of Mumbai (2016), MSc. in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science (2017), and MPhil in South Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge (2018). His work focuses on emotions in international relations, in particular the ‘ordering role of fear in international relations, that is, its ability to act as a regulatory tool that both structures and is produced by international political orders and their constitutive emotional practices. To do so, he will draw on India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru’s critique of fear in international politics, more specifically, his ‘security dilemma sensibility’ and his resulting understandings as a theorist of ‘emotional state practices.’
