Convener: Mehroz Ehsan
Speakers: Mohammad Iqbal, Malala Yousafzai
Mr Mohammad Iqbal, father of Mashal Khan, will deliver a lecture on 29th January at the University of Oxford. Mashal Khan was killed by a mob on 13th April 2017 over fake accusation of committing blasphemy.
Mr Iqbal showed immense courage despite the tragic incident that shook his family and has been striving for justice ever since. His thoughts on blasphemy are reflective of a progressive mindset that is much needed for tackling issues arising from extremism in Pakistan. By advocating for the need of education, reforms and transformation in Pakistan's sociopolitical and legal domains, Mr Iqbal seeks to prevent injustice that many people, like his son, had to suffer from.
Malala Yousafzai, renowned for her relentless efforts for women's education in Pakistan, will be introducing Mr Iqbal for the event.
The lecture is organised with the support of Mr Ziauddin Yousafzai. The lecture will be delivered in Urdu with English translation of the summary on the projector screen.
